Created to help readers grow
The Power Reading Program continues the educational vision of Barry M. Smith, Ed.D. The original Reading for Power: Powereading 1, Completely New Edition was credited to Barry M. Smith, Ed.D., and Betty Hamilton Pryce, Ed.B., and published by P.A.R. Incorporated in Providence, Rhode Island.
The 1986 edition was revised and edited by Carol A. Long, Senior Editor. Its illustrations were by Valerie Marsella, with text and cover design by Drawing Board Associates.
A program renewed for today
PAR Publishing is bringing the program into a modern, web-enabled format. The new edition retains its central idea: readers improve through consistent practice, meaningful choices, increasing challenge, and honest measurement of their own progress.
The digital program includes 120 leveled selections and 600 comprehension questions. Stories and informational passages have been reviewed for present-day accuracy, relevance, representation, and age-appropriate interest while preserving the reading skills each lesson develops.
